Investor Seeks Cambodian Justice Ministry’s Help in YY Capital Dispute

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has asked Cambodian authorities to step in amid a dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing alleged misconduct and breaches of trust.

In two letters submitted to the authorities, including one addressed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, the investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board, engaged in actions that caused financial harm, including embezzlement and fraud. The investor alleges that multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated, with preliminary investigations suggesting approximately $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal benefit and that of others.

The letters further claim that Yamada orchestrated fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling more than $7 million, and carried out document forgery and large-scale cash diversions through shell companies connected to him and alleged accomplices. Some of the funds are said to have been transferred to an overseas bank account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

According to the letters, Yamada reportedly established shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan using nominees, while maintaining direct control over related bank accounts and financial transactions.

The investor notes that in Cambodia, prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, and that assets and bank accounts have been frozen under court orders. Additional investigations are reportedly underway, with authorities in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States also examining allegations including embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.

In the letters, the investor urges Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough investigations, warning that potential interference could allow suspects to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
